What's New
Did Marcia Cross Use and Egg Donor?
She won't exactly say. Neither will Elizabeth Edwards or Nancy Grace. Suzanne is a bit less cagey on the issue. Click here to read her latest Fit Pregnancy article, "I Used An Egg Donor."
Baby Sleep Guru Weissbluth Endorses Suzanne's New Book
Suzanne and fellow twins mom Sarah Bowen Shea are psyched that their new book, The Essential Breastfeeding Log: A Feedings Tracker and Baby-Care Organizer for Nursing Moms has been endorsed Marc Weissbluth, MD, author of the baby bible Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child.
With its flexible format, the book is useful whether a mom is exclusively breastfeeding, breastfeeding and pumping, or breastfeeding and supplementing with formula. It helps a new mom get in tune with her baby's eating and sleeping patterns - crucial info that will set the stage for the little bugger to sleep through the night.
It's the perfect shower gift!
"Almost everyone who does it is going to lose weight"
Does what? Keeps a food diary. That's according to Rob Carels, Ph.D., a psychology professor at Bowling Green State University, who has researched the benefits of maintaining a food log. Suzanne interviewed Carels for her new book, The Ultimate Diet Log, which she co-wrote with dietitian Cynthia Sass. As future Surgeon General Sanjay Gupta, M.D., writes here, research shows that tracking your food intake can double your weight loss.
There are plenty of food diaries on the market, but none like The Ultimate Diet Log. Instead of of tracking your intake of protein, carbs, fat, and calories - waste of time! - you'll chart just two "focus areas" at a time," whether it's fiber and saturated fat or veggies and liquid calories.

Back In The Fifties . . .
. . . the medical establishment recommended pregnant women walk no more than one mile a day, broken up into several sessions. Now we know better: prenatal exercise isn't just safe - it's essential to your health and your baby's. Prenatal workouts lower a woman's risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and excess weight gain; exercise also improves the uterine environment, reducing the little one's risk of developing diabetes and obesity years down the line. The Active Woman's Pregnancy Log, Suzanne's latest collaboration with her Fitness for Dummies coauthor Liz Neporent, will help you stay active even when your feet are so swollen that they look like bread loaves with toes.

Lactation Nation!
Though Suzanne's boys did not exactly earn any Boy Scout badges early on when it came to breastfeeding, the little buggers did eventually get with the program, inspiring Suzanne to join forces with fellow health writer and twins mom Sarah Bowen Shea. Their book, The Essential Breastfeeding Log: A Feedings Tracker, Baby Sleep Record and Weight-Loss Diary for Nursing Moms, will be published in 2009 by Ballantine.
The Twins Turn 6 Months
They're not crawling yet or even sitting up, but Toby and Ian Spencer are thoroughly enjoying their rice cereal and mashed green beans. The boys also enjoy eating their board books, their fists and their squishy lobster toy.
Suzanne and Liz Hit National TV!
The Fat-Free Truth got a big boost in mid-January when Suzanne and coauthor Liz Neporent appeared on NBC's The Today Show, Weekend Edition, two days in a row. On the first segment, Today cohost Campbell Brown chatted with Suzanne and Liz about the parts of the book they most enjoyed researching. Liz talked about her obsession with sumo wrestlers — "the only people on earth who are fat on purpose." Suzanne talked about how portion sizes have "blimped out — big time."
The next day, cohost Lester Holt presented Suzanne and Liz with questions that Today viewers had e-mailed. Suzanne explained that yes, it's actually OK to eat after 7 p.m. "It doesn't matter whether you're watching The Today Show or The Tonight Show," she said. "What matters is how many calories you eat versus how many calories you burn." Liz explained that, contrary to popular belief, guzzling water does not help people lose weight. "The science, the evidence, says it's absolutely not true." Not convinced? See page 142 of The Fat-Free Truth.
A Classic Gets An Overhaul
Suzanne hopes this is no reflection on her writing skills, but her bestselling book is the one that contains almost no words: The Ultimate Workout Log. Nonetheless, Suzanne is excited to announce publication of the third edition of her classic training diary, which has sold more than a quarter of a million copies. The new edition is radically different from — and better than — the previous two, so order yourself a copy. The log includes designated space to track six months' worth of training routines and goals, and it's filled with nifty nuggets of research, fitness trivia and quiz questions. Who can run faster: a world-class sprinter or a kangaroo? How did the bikini get its name? If you order your caffe latte with nonfat milk instead of whole milk, how many calories will you save? Buy the log and find out.
Curse Goes Global
Suzanne recently got the word that in 2005, The Curse of the Singles Table will be published in seven languages: Japanese, Spanish, Russian, Romanian, Portuguese, German and Dutch. The Romanians are calling the book Too Much Celibacy. The Dutch are calling it Hopelessly Single. Suzanne can't wait to find out how Curse translates in Tokyo.
Suzanne Launches The Celibacy Chronicles!
During the first leg of Suzanne's book tour, more than a few people came up to her and blurted out, "Oh my god, you're living MY LIFE!" and "You think your streak was long? You have NO FREAKIN' IDEA." This made Suzanne mighty curious to hear about other people's epic dry spells.
It also gave her the idea to launch The Celibacy Chronicles, a place
where others can share their own tales. If you have ever,
inadvertently, found yourself on the fast track to nunhood or monkhood,
e-mail Suzanne and she'll post your story.
